Book Review #3 – Mortality Doctrine

The Mortality Doctrine is a trilogy of young-adult science fiction novels written by James Dashner. It includes The Eye of Minds, The Rule of Thoughts and The Game of Lives.

I thoroughly enjoyed the series – it had me on the edge. It was fast paced with admirable and least expected twists.

The series was set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares.

The Eye of Minds

Michael and his friends – Sarah and Bryson who are known for their exceptional hacking and gaming skills were given a task by Agent Weber of VirtNet Secerity to track down Kaine (cyber terrorist) and put an end to his vicious plans.

The Rule of Thoughts

What Michael found at the end turned everything he’d ever known about his life—and the world—completely upside down.

He wakes up in the real world, in the body of human named Jackson Porter. Kaine out smarted  everyone and used Michael to successfully turn the Mortality Doctrine programme into a reality. Now, the stakes are much higher, as Kaine intends to replace human minds with artificial intelligence.

The Game of Lives

The games are over. The VirtNet has become a world of deadly consequences, and Kaine grows stronger by the day. The Mortality Doctrine—Kaine’s master plan—has nearly been realized, and little by little the line separating the virtual from the real is blurring.

In this book, both the real as well as the virtual world has become a deadly place. And humans are being taken over by Artificial Intelligence at much faster rate. Michael cannot trust anyone since he had been used as pawn a number of times. So he decides to venture into the Path (where it all began) on his own and stop the madness unleashed.

Lines from the books

“For the first time in his life, Michael understood why real soldiers coming back from real wars often had a hard time getting over the things they’d seen and done. And had done to them. If Michael had a soul, it was starting to leak out of his hopes.”
― James Dashner, The Eye of Minds

“I’ve met some brave people in my life. And I’ve met some awfully stupid people. You’re one of the rare ones that are both.”
― James Dashner, The Rule of Thoughts

“Sometimes you have to let go. Sometimes you have to let others share your burden.”
― James Dashner, The Game of Lives

Have a great day!

  1. I love the way you review books especially by adding quotes and lines from the book. That makes one want to read the book. I have not been a big fan of sci-fi books but of late I find myself reading more of sci-fi. However this seems like a YS book and that means I’m too old for it! 😛
